- Servolution founder Dino Rizzo continues to highlight practical acts of service as a way for churches to build relationships and make a difference in their communities.
Servolution is celebrating a month of community outreach as churches across the country continue finding practical ways to serve their neighbors, care for local communities, and mobilize volunteers.
September has brought several examples of churches putting service into action, from ongoing neighborhood outreach in Washington to a large-scale day of service across Delaware.
At Mount Vernon, Washington, Radius Church is carrying out its Adopt-a-Block outreach programme, an initiative which is aimed at being consistently present in neighbourhoods by means of practical service and the building of relationships. The church sees the programme as a means of showing care for its community, being kind to neighbours, and sharing God’s love.
The Adopt-a-Block initiative includes community cleanups, providing neighborhood care, and working with local organizations and law enforcement. The program is dedicated to maintaining a consistent presence in the community so that volunteers can spot practical needs and develop relationships over time.
Servolution founder Dino Rizzo has always championed exactly this kind of emphasis on practical, useful, and accessible community service. Servolution itself was founded around the idea that acts of kindness can create meaningful opportunities to reach and support others.
This month, the spirit of service was also on display in Delaware when United Church’s congregation showed up for their initiative, All Play Serve Saturday.
On September 12 some 1,000 people took part in 97 different initiatives that were aimed at neighbourhoods, schools, and communities all over Delaware. The UNITED Church, with campuses in Dover, Milford, and Sussex, saw the event as a chance for people to come together because they all wanted to make a difference.
For Dino Rizzo, examples such as these show that outreach can become part of the ordinary routine of church life, something that’s been at the heart of Servolution’s mission. Whether volunteers are giving care to one neighbourhood consistently or hundreds of people taking part in dozens of projects on a single day, churches can discover ways of responding to the needs that are right around them.
As September progresses, Servolution pays tribute to the churches, volunteers, and community partners who are dedicating their time to helping others and thereby strengthening the links within their cities.
