Millie, a modern technology-enabled women’s health clinic, and El Camino Health, one of the Bay Area’s leading healthcare systems, today announced the launch of a joint maternity clinic which will open in Palo Alto December 2026. The combination of Millie’s innovative midwifery-led care model with El Camino Health’s nationally recognized maternity services creates a seamless, integrated pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience designed to give Silicon Valley and Bay Area families greater access and more choice, improving healthcare outcomes.
“We built Millie to reimagine maternity care around what families need: a connected and supportive experience with better outcomes,” said Anu Sharma, Founder and CEO of Millie. “We’re excited to partner with El Camino Health to bring that vision to more families through a model that combines trusted health system expertise with a modern, relationship-based approach to care.”
The new generation of expectant mothers want customized care, including education and personalized attention, hallmarks of the two partner organizations.
“At El Camino Health, we’re always looking at innovative ways to enhance care and meet the evolving needs of families in our community,” said Dan Woods, CEO of El Camino Health. “We’re proud to be recognized as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals, and together with Millie’s patient-centered mission, we’re making the maternity care experience available to more families from pregnancy through postpartum care.”
What is modern maternity care?
Families can choose Millie’s full range of maternity services, from the time they consider pregnancy, to end-to-end pregnancy care, miscarriage management, lactation support, mental health services, nutrition counseling and postpartum support which includes a home visit and remote monitoring. It is a seamless connection to El Camino Health’s labor and delivery services and broader women’s health expert network.
Women in the U.S. are having children at an older age. The CDC National Vital Statistics System reports that 21% of all births in the U.S. were to women 35 and older in 2023, up from 9% in 1990. Improving patient access, quality of care, and patient experience, while also reducing risk is at the heart of the new model being launched through the Millie-El Camino Health partnership. The model is designed specifically to care for modern pregnant patients, many of whom are over 35 years of age.
How will care look different?
Unlike traditional referral relationships, the joint clinic provides families with a unified care experience while allowing both organizations to contribute their complementary strengths. Patients benefit from the continuity and accessibility of Millie’s distinctive maternity care model alongside the resources and specialty expertise of a leading health system.
El Camino Health redefined the modern childbirth experience at its new Melchor Family Center for Women and Newborns. The new pavilion was built on the Mountain View campus and designed to support maternity and newborn parents and their families through every step of their care journey. The high-touch, high-tech, specialized care environments reduce parental trauma and support infant development for high-risk deliveries, including those requiring neonatal intensive care. With approximately 5,000 births annually, El Camino Health is one of the region’s leading providers of maternity care.
This collaboration reflects a broader shift in maternity care innovation as patient preferences evolve towards more personalized, holistic and relationship-based care. Through this partnership with Millie, El Camino Health is leading the way and bringing the next generation of maternity care directly into the health system setting — pairing the continuity and personalized experience families increasingly want with the specialized resources and facilities of a leading hospital system.
The Palo Alto clinic is part of a broader footprint of clinics that Millie and El Camino Health plan to open as they expand choice and access to maternity care in the Silicon Valley and Bay Area community. A second clinic is already in development in the South Bay and will open in the coming months.
