A Global Call for Jewish Self-Authorship: The New Jewish Creative Renaissance Gathers Momentum

Emmy-Nominated Writer-Producer launches The Jewish Voice Project, for people to reclaim authorship of their lives with a Torah-inspired creative writing journey

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — At a moment when Jewish identity is increasingly being defined from the outside through algorithms, ideology and stereotypes, The Jewish Voice Project is issuing a different kind of response: an invitation to individual authorship throughout the community.

Founded by Emmy-nominated writer-producer Adam Gilad, the new cultural initiative is calling for Jewish people around the world to find their own voices and help ignite what Gilad describes as “a new Jewish Creative Renaissance” taking shape.

The Jewish Voice Project has opened enrollment for the founding cohort of Write Through the Torah, its flagship non-religious personal creative writing experience. The year-long journey welcomes both lifelong and first-time writers. No Torah knowledge or prior writing background is required.

The premise is both simple and urgent: when Jewish people do not tell the stories of their own lives, others fill that space. Before the Jewish story can be heard differently in the world, more Jewish people must first find, trust and express their own voices, taking ownership of the stories only they can tell.

“We are done letting other people write our story,” Gilad says. “But the answer isn’t to replace one narrow narrative with another. It’s about our true stories and experiences in all their variety. Real people. Real families. Real memories. Real humor, grief, longing, faith, doubt, desire and imagination. In a world flooded with AI-generated noise and abstract portrayals of Jewish life, our humanity must be impossible to miss.”

“Before the world can hear your voice, you have to hear it yourself,” Gilad says. “Most of us carry extraordinary stories inside that we have never taken the time to unpack: memories, questions, family stories, buried passions, contradictions, tenderness, anger, hilarity and imagination. Writing gives us a way to encounter those things afresh and give them language.”

Rather than training participants to advocate for any position, The Jewish Voice Project invites them to write honestly and imaginatively from their own lives.

“My dream is not one singular Jewish voice,” Gilad says, “as if that were ever even possible! It is a million Jewish stories: funny ones, painful ones, sacred ones, irreverent ones, secular ones, religious ones, love stories, family stories, stories of doubt, loss, courage, food, sex, faith, belonging, ambition, failure and everything else a full and vibrant human life contains.”

The flagship online workshop, Write Through the Torah, uses Jewish texts and ideas — from Genesis to Nora Ephron — as creative sparks. Each week begins with a theme inspired by the Torah portion, or parsha, and expands into memoir, imagination, family history, relationships, identity, humor and the questions alive in participants’ own lives.

“You don’t have to know Torah or think of yourself as a writer coming in,” Gilad says, “but you will definitely be a far better writer coming out!”

Gilad conceived the Project as both a “shared oasis” and a “creative forge” — a place where Jewish people can step outside the noise, encounter their own lives more deeply and turn experience into creative expression.

The Jewish Voice Project is non-denominational and welcoming across the spectrum of Jewish identity and belief, as well as to friends and allies of the Jewish people.

Gilad sees The Jewish Voice Project as an important chapter of a broader Jewish Creative Renaissance happening now, spanning memoir, music, film, comedy, visual art, performance, speeches, family histories and forms of expression not yet imagined.

“It begins on the page, but it doesn’t end there,” Gilad says. “Individual voice becomes collective possibility, confidence and action. Let a million voices rise. Let my people write!”

Gilad is an Emmy-nominated writer-producer, former Stanford writing instructor, Lady Davis Graduate Research Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, founding instructor of the Hollywood Bureau’s Jewish Roots Screenwriters Collective, and co-author with Rutgers professor Dr. Gary Rendsburg of the forthcoming The Passion of Israel: The Evolution of a People and Its Ideas (working title).
